Fresh Flavor: Misha and More Edition

Mikhail Baryshnikov and Ana Laguna in "Place." Photo by Bengt Wanselius.
The diversity (and awesomeness) of the fall season are on display, I’d say, in next weekend’s pair o’ Pills: Read up on Baryshnikov at the Harris and the LinkUp Fall Showcase featuring J’Sun Howard and Adam Rose.

Censorship? Why?

Someone who would’ve been an international artistic ambassador for a country suffering an extreme P.R. crisis, it was an enormous embarrassment to the Soviet Union that Baryshnikov escaped during a Canadian tour and spent the glory years of his career in the United States. Had he stayed in the U.S.S.R. he would’ve been held up as an example for young ballet students all over the country, not to mention the fact that they would’ve been able to watch him perform in person regularly and learn from his expertise. Thus the unfortunate decision was made to deny, for many years, his very existence.
