I’ve seen Mikhail Baryshnikov in person twice: My dad took me to see him with White Oak Dance Project around 1994–he performed Twyla Tharp’s Pergolesi–and, about three years later, he stood just inside a studio at the School of American Ballet where I was taking Stanley Williams‘ men’s class and took photographs.
